Restoration Work Continues on Casa del Herrero

Casa del Herrero is making headlines! Last week, KEYT featured Casa del Herrero and its path to restoration. Thanks to a check of $750,000, as well as a generous matching grant, $1.5 million was raised for Montecito’s only National Historic Landmark, and now the major restoration project is underway.
Designed by Spanish revival architect George Washington Smith in 1925, and lived in by the industrialist George Fox Steedman, Casa del Herrero remains one of Montecito’s historic crown jewels. With this funding, among the repair projects will be detailed attention to the ten fountains, which date as far back as the 17th, 18th, and even 13th century.
“Casa del Herrero is an amazing treasure trove of antiquities and Spanish Colonial Revival architecture,” said Case del Herrero Executive Director and Head of Curation Natalie Sanderson said.

Help Preserve Montecito’s Own Time Capsule
The Casa del Herrero estate faces ongoing challenges, from maintaining its extensive gardens to preserving art and delicate historical artifacts and ensuring accessibility for all visitors. Each conservation project requires specialized expertise and careful attention to historical accuracy – work that demands both passion and substantial funding.
Your donation directly impacts preservation efforts at Casa del Herrero. No amount is too small, and thanks to a generous “Save America’s Treasures Grant,” a matching grant in partnership with David Bolton, executive director and CEO of California Missions Foundation, every dollar you donate will be doubled, amplifying your impact on preserving this irreplaceable cultural treasure for future generations.
